Privacy Policy for Horeb Church
Last updated: June 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the Horeb Church mobile application ("Horeb Church," "the app," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our app on iOS and Android. By using the app, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact us at joelchett@gmail.com.
Who We Are
Horeb Church is a mobile app built for the Horeb House of Worship community. It provides Bible reading, personal notes, songs and playlists, a community prayer hub, and a church feed, with account-based features secured through Firebase.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide When You Create an Account
When you register, we collect:
- Name (and the display name shown to others)
- Email address
- Date of birth
- Phone number
You can sign up using email with a one-time passcode (OTP) sent to your email address, or with Google Sign-In. If you use Google Sign-In, we receive basic profile information from your Google account (such as your name, email address, and profile photo) as permitted by your Google account settings.
Content You Create in the App
- Prayer requests. When you post a prayer request, we store the message text, your display name, your initials, a category, and whether the request is marked private or public. Public prayer requests are visible to other users in the community prayer feed and in featured carousels. Private prayer requests are not shown to other members of the community. However, when you submit a private prayer request, its content, category, and your name (and email, where available) are sent by email to the church's pastors so they can pray for you. "Private" therefore means private from other app users — not from church leadership. Other users can "pin" a public request to pray for it.
- Notes. Personal notes you write, including any titles, text, formatting, color tags, and Bible verses you save into a note. Notes are stored privately to your account and are not shared with other users.
- Songs and playlists. Playlists and song-related content you create or interact with.
- Other submissions. Information you submit through in-app forms and other interactive features.
Information Collected Automatically
- Device and technical information. Basic device information needed to run the app and deliver notifications.
- Push notification token. If you enable notifications, we use a device push token to send you notifications.
- Locale information. Your device region/locale is used to support phone number entry and formatting.
We do not use crash reporting (such as Crashlytics, Sentry, or Bugsnag) and we do not use analytics services in the app.
Information We Do Not Collect
The app does not process payments or collect financial or payment card information.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you
- Display your name and content where you choose to share it (for example, public prayer requests)
- Provide core features: Bible reading, notes, songs/playlists, the prayer hub, and the church feed
- Send you one-time passcodes for email-based sign-in
- Send push notifications you have enabled
- Maintain the security and integrity of the app
- Respond to your requests and provide support
How Your Information Is Shared
We do not sell your personal information. Information is shared only as follows:
- With other users. Content you choose to make public — such as public prayer requests and your display name on them — is visible to other users of the app. Private prayer requests and personal notes are not shared with other users.
- With service providers. We use third-party services to operate the app:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Storage) — our backend and database, which stores your account information and the content you create, and which delivers app emails (such as one-time passcodes and private prayer notifications to pastors) through the Firebase email extension.
- Google Sign-In — if you choose to sign in with Google.
These providers process data on our behalf and are subject to their own privacy terms. We encourage you to review Google's Privacy Policy.
- For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the church community.
Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the app's features. Some content is removed automatically:
- Public prayer requests drop out of the public feed approximately 60 days after posting, but remain in your own "Your Requests" history.
- Prayer requests are permanently deleted approximately one year after they are created (featured/pinned church prayers are exempt).
- Notes, playlists, and other content are retained until you delete them.
You may delete your own prayer requests and notes at any time within the app. When you delete your account, your user profile, notes, and playlists are removed from our systems. Prayer requests and certain submissions may be kept for church records but are no longer tied to your account.
Your Choices and Rights
- Access and update. You can view and edit much of your information directly in the app, including your display name and the content you create.
- Delete content. You can delete your prayer requests and notes within the app.
- Notifications. You can disable push notifications in your device settings at any time.
- Account deletion. You can permanently delete your account from within the app (in Settings). Deleting your account removes your account record, personal notes, and playlists. Prayer requests and form submissions you made may be retained for church ministry records; where retained, they are disassociated from your account and no longer linked to your personal profile. You may also contact us at joelchett@gmail.com for assistance.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal data (such as the right to access, correct, or delete it). To exercise any such rights, contact us at the email above.
Children's Privacy
Horeb Church is intended for use by members of the church community and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at joelchett@gmail.com and we will take steps to delete it.
Data Security
We use Google Firebase's security infrastructure, including authentication and database security rules, to protect your information. Private content (such as private prayer requests and personal notes) is restricted so that it is accessible only to you. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International Data Transfers
Your information is stored and processed using Google Firebase's infrastructure, which may store and process data in countries other than your own. By using the app, you consent to this processing.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. Significant changes may be communicated through the app. Your continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
